Answering the Call of the Ancestors
Book crowdfunding campaign
This book explores the deep, systemic, historical roots of how substance use struggles have been weaponized by colonization, racial capitalism, and systemic oppression. The book names through my lived experience, how I have navigated recovering from the impacts of these systems. It explores the challenges of living in these times of late-stage racial capitalism, with the 500+ year legacy of colonization, and what hope we can have in answering the call of the ancestors to recover and be liberated.
This book needs to be born of community and collective care.
Mainstream recovery resources like Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and other white-centered, mainstream recovery, treatment, and prevention approaches do not center colonization, racial capitalism, and systemic oppression's impact on why so many of us struggle with substances, and the kind of support we need to tend to those root systemic and historical impacts.
I am asking for this funding so I can pay myself and pay other queer, trans, and BIPOC and disabled folks I will work with in the process to be resourced and make this book. This funding will help me make sure I can publish this book in a way that makes sure I am resourced and that I can well-resource the people who I need to work with me to get this book to completion. This campaign will help fund the writing of and self-publishing of this work. Traditionally, crowdfunding campaigns like this fund projects that are near completion and asking for support for distribution. With this campaign, Iām inviting you to be in process with me as I write this book and help me to birth it into the world with your support.
